UNU governing body welcomes 10 new members
Ten new members were welcomed to the United
Nations University Council when the UNU's governing body convened in
Tokyo December 3 for its 54th session.
The new council members are:
- Prof. Paolo Blasi, Professor of
Physics and former Rector, University of Florence (Italy).
- Ms. Angela Cropper, President
of the Cropper Foundation (Trinidad and Tobago).
- Dr. Juan Ramón de la Fuente,
Rector, National Autonomous University of Mexico (Mexico).
- Dr. Louise Fresco, Professor of
Foundations of Sustainable Development in International Perspective,
University of Amsterdam (Netherlands).
- Dr. Fadia N. Kiwan, Professor
of Political Science, St. Joseph University, Beirut (Lebanon).
- Prof. Goolam Mohamedbhai,
President, International Association of Universities (Mauritius).
- Prof. Komlavi Francisco Seddoh,
former Director, Division of Higher Education, UNESCO (Togo).
- Dr. Gita Sen, Professor, Indian
Institute of Management, Bangalore (India).
- Prof. Ivan Wilhelm, former
Rector, Charles University, Prague (Czech Republic).
- Prof. Margret Wintermantel,
President, University of Saarland, Saarbrücken (Germany).
The UNU Council is composed of 24 members
who are appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the
Director-General of UNESCO. Members serve in their individual capacity for
six-year terms.
