INTECH to host seminar on intellectual property rights 

UNU Institute for New Technologies (UNU-INTECH) will host an international seminar on Contributions to the Development Agenda on Intellectual Property Rights September 23-24 in Maastricht.

The event, which will be held on the eve of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) general assembly in Geneva September 26-October 5, will bring together leading scholars to discuss the impact of intellectual property rights on the development agenda and how they can help to foster economic growth in the developing world.

Keynote speaker will be Richard Nelson, the George Blumenthal Professor of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in New York.

Among the themes to be covered in seminar sessions:

  • Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights – Towards a Development- Oriented Agenda
  • Intellectual Property and Development: Emerging Issues
  • High-Tech Industries and Intellectual Property: Perspectives for Developing Countries
  • Intermediary Technologies and Intellectual Property: Perspectives for Developing Countries
  • The Role and impact of Intellectual Property on Innovation and Competition
  • Recent Changes in the US Patent System: Perspectives regarding Development strategies and Catch-up processes.
