New foundation to fund chair at UNU-EHS The newly established Munich Re Foundation has agreed to finance a Chair on Social Vulnerability at UNU Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS). The chair will be occupied on a rotating basis in research cycles of two to three years by outstanding young international scientists, who will conduct research in the field of risk perception. The Chair, the new foundation's first project, will be financed over a period of five years and will devote itself to the fundamental questions of how vulnerability to losses varies from culture to culture and how people in different cultural circles deal with risks and disaster prevention. "With the Foundation Chair, we can get to the bottom of the question of how disaster prevention can be best tailored to the needs of those concerned in the different cultures," said UNU-EHS director Janos Bogardi. |
