Youth Leadership for Global Governance course slated for June

Efforts to improve global governance often ignore the potential for young people to make important contributions to the process. UNU International Leadership Institute's latest Youth Leadership for Global Governance course aims to tap the energy and input of young people from different parts of the world and engaging them in a structured dialogue that would result in action plans and proposals.

The 10-day residential programme runs June 18-28 and will be conducted in partnership with King Abdullah the II Fund for Development (KAFD) and is the second joint project on youth leadership development between the two institutions.

The course is based on the premise outlined in the report of the Commission on Global Governance that "global governance does not imply world government or world federalism. Effective global governance calls for a new vision, challenging people as well as governments to realize that there is no alternative to working together to create the kind of world they want for themselves and their children."

The course will bring together young people from around the globe mainly those who currently living in Jordan. The aim is to help participants to develop leadership skills through a curriculum of theoretical and practical components, engaging them in activities that stimulate critical and analytical thinking.

Among the course deliverables, participants will develop action plans on the role of the youth in global governance. The action plans will be delivered and discussed at the World Youth Peace Summit in Jordan in September.
